BALLView with real time raytracing capabilities demonstrated at official Intel press conference - 3 March 2009
The integration of the real time ray tracer RTfact (developed by the group of Prof. Philipp Slusallek) into BALLView was presented during the official Intel press conference which took place on the 3rd March 2009. The integration of RTfact into BALLView is the first fully featured real-time raytracing integration into a molecular viewer/modeller. The results are quite exciting, and the version will be soon released to the public.
Intel choose this application to show the potential of their new Nehalem architecture. The shown scenes included a real time simulation of Aspirin in the binding pocket of COX2 and a GPCR hovering above a mirror plane.
