Configure fails

Configure fails, even after running autoconf.
Answer:
On some machines configure fails with an error message like:
source/configure: line 22885: syntax error near unexpected token `('
source/configure: line 22885:
`echo "on `(hostname || uname -n) 2>/dev/null | sed 1q`" >&5'
This error appeared on a linux machine with bash 3.X This version of the bourne again shell seems to be broken. Try to install an other version, e.g. 2.0.5 and run configure again. If this problem should arise with an other version of the bash shell, please let us know...
