On Linux:

If you use a NVIDIA chipset graphics accelerator, you have to set the environment variable __GL_FSAA_MODE, e.g. to "6" before starting BALLView. Furthermore, make sure you use the NVIDIA OpenGL headers and libs, e.g. download and install the NVIDIA drivers gain...

For ATI chipset cards, the antialiasing is controlled by entries in the XF86config (see documentation for the drivers).

On Windows:

Most graphics drivers under Windows let you set the antialiasing manualy. Try different settings there.
